Andrea
Loeppky (Scott-Pearse) was raised in London, Ontario,
where as a child she was exposed to the Arts in various
forms, taking lessons in dance, drawing and painting,
music and theatre classes. As a teen she aspired to
attend the Ontario College of Art (OCAD), but with
encouragement to go for a more "practical"
vocation, she moved to Toronto in the late 1970s to
train as a nurse. For the next 22 years she pursued
artistic expression only sporadically, taking workshops
in figure drawing and watercolour painting, while
raising a family and her professional career, initially
in critical care nursing and later the pharmaceutical
industry. In 1994, Andrea and her family moved from
Toronto to a historic hamlet in King Township where she
became actively involved in community associations
working to influence municipal and provincial government
planning decisions, specifically their handling of
environmental issues and countryside protection.
Andrea
returned to her life long passion for artistic
expression in late 2002 after leaving 15 years in the
pharmaceutical business. The following spring, with the
encouragement of other artists, Andrea entered her first
art show, the long-standing Art Aurora, where she was
awarded first prize for oils and acrylics. After a gap
of a few years, Andrea began taking workshops and
independent study to gain a better understanding and
practical application of colour and design theory
concepts and developing a competency working in
acrylics. Andrea also became involved in her local art
community, as a member of Kingcrafts Artists Guild where
she mentored other artists transitioning from
watercolour to acrylic medium. In 2005 along with a
group of artists and cultural enthusiasts, she worked to
establish Arts Society King, a community-based umbrella
organization to support the arts, culture and heritage
groups in King Township.
Andrea
began showing and selling her paintings in 2006, and has
since achieved success in local visual arts studio
tours, group juried shows and a number of solo shows in
non-gallery venues.
In recent years Andrea has become recognized for
her depictions of sweeping landscapes and rural life in
and around King Township. Her impressionistic works
often focus on the play of light and shadow. A number of
her landscapes have appeared on magazines covers and in
print.
In contrast to the realism inspired by her
surroundings, more recently Andrea has explored another
creative expression painting abstracts. Her approach is
best described as spontaneous experimentation, where
initial concepts frequently evolve as the paint inspires
a different path.
Whether representational or abstract, Andrea’s
paintings are frequently characterized by her use of
bold colour, shapes and high contrast which results in
strong compositions.
Andrea’s work can be found in private and
institutional collections in Canada, as well as private
collections in the United States, United Kingdom,
Germany and Australia.

"I
paint for the shear joy of applying paint to a
canvas, transforming a blank flat surface into
something that draws the viewer in. I love the
challenge of conveying the essence of something
that has caught my attention, or just allowing
an abstract to unfold under my brush. In the end
I strive for colour and shapes that create a
well structured, pleasing composition. Success
for me is when I finish a painting that I
consider better than the one I did before.
Looking into the future, I am unsure where I am
headed, but I am very happy to continue to
experiment and learn as I go. I am most thankful
to have the time to focus on doing what I love
best."
